  • Czech Republic Unesco cities bike tour self-guided from Prague

The route of this tour leads through three of the most attractive towns of the Czech Republic. Due to their exceptional cultural and historical value, these towns have been recorded in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List. In Renaissance Telc, where our bike tour begins, you will have the chance to admire the renowned square and castle with its royal garden. Cesky Krumlov is recorded on the UNESCO list as the best preserved medieval town in the whole of central Europe. It is the home of the second largest chateau in the Czech Republic with a uniquely preserved Baroque theatre, royal garden and open-air theatre with a revolving auditorium. The historical centre of Prague has become the most visited town in Europe following the fall of Communism. In addition to these three UNESCO towns, you will spend nights in Jindrichuv Hradec, the seat of the region’s administration, and in the Renaissance town of Trebon, a famous spa resort. Both towns have a millennium-long history, Renaissance chateaus and many other Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque monuments.  The route will take you through České Budějovice, the town that gave its name to Budweiser beer. You will certainly not want to miss the opportunity of tasting the beer in its hometown, where it has been brewed for over 600 years. This tour will take you through many diverse landscapes. Sometimes you will have to conquer hills, which will be replaced by flatlands around rivers and ponds. The itinerary is designed to be a gentle ride with a balance of cycling and sightseeing.

Western Bohemia Spa bike tour (self-guided)

This tour is different compared to most of our tours as in each of the towns you will spend two nights. This way every other day you can decide, whether you would go biking or enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Unesco World Heritage Great Spa Towns of Europe (with a possible spa treatment?).

Come with us to a land of healing springs, a land of a long and rich history, a land of breath-taking nature and openhearted people. Join this bike tour and enjoy the incomparable atmosphere of the Czech spa towns. Explore the forests and tales of the Ohre river and Slavkov natural reservoir.

Discover the dramatic story of the St. Maura reliquary in Becov nad Teplou and enjoy the historical town of Cheb with its unique merchant houses surrounding the square and the imperial castle chapel. Of course, we will have time and space to try the healing springs in all the fairytale spa towns.

  •

Self-Guided Bike Tour to the thermal-Spas in the Czeck Republic

Alternatively, see on our web for the Guided Tour.

Day 1: Prague – Karlovy Vary – Optinal transfer by van from Prague

Arrival to the town of Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad), founded by the emperor Charles IV. in the14th century. It is the biggest spa in the Czech Republic, having 12 healing springs. Actually 13 – the last is the famous Becherovka herbal liqueur. Also known for its china and promenade of beautiful architecture and luxury shops, we do suggest a full day to explore this noble town, still an oasis for some of the world’s richest people. We offer a transfer from Prague (130km) by car or van.

Day 2: Karlovy Vary loop  30-70 km / 19-44 miles

In the morning you will take a local train for a short ride to the Ore mountains. This old mining/mountaineering area is now under the UNESCO protection thanks to all the mining and mining related history. You take the journey to a
small mining town of Horní Blatná. Here you start biking through towns like Abertamy or Jáchymov
and check out a lot of the herritage yourself together with the lovely nature!

Day 3: Along river Ohre – Frantiskovy Lazne  62 km / 38 miles

We’ll start from Karlovy Vary and bike through the amazingly beautiful Ohre river valley nature. Our day
leads us along a newly built cycling trail through the Slavkov Forest nature preserve and the stunning Svatosske Skaly rock formations. Following the river we arrive in Loket with its stunning 14th-century castle.
Next stop is the town Sokolov with a nice chateau and town centre originating in the 13th century. Refreshments abound along the route, but the Kynsperk brewery or the coffee Mostov’s small chateau are highlights.
Today’s last stop and our overnight stay is the spa town of Frantiskovy Lazne (Franzesbad), a 19th-century spa town built by the emperor Franz I. This regal town still maintains the atmosphere of the golden age of spas.
Immerse yourself and enjoy the waters after a long biking day!

    Day 4: Frantiskovy Lazne Spa and Iron curtain trails 15 – 60 km / 10 – 37 miles

Today’s program is really flexible. Spa lovers can spend the whole day being pampered in the spas’ healing waters. For those who prefer two-wheeled therapy, we offer a 60 km loop, but we can adjust lengths and difficulty of
the ride to fit you best!
For centuries this area stood as the border between the Holy Roman Empire and the Czech Kingdom. Thanks to
this fact, our day’s ride will be full of castles, fortresses, and chateaux, many accurately restored so the whole trip
looks like a journey through “Old Europe“ – which it is!
Part of the day will also trace the borders of the Iron Curtain, a reminder of the Cold War. Should you desire, a short trip to Germany reveals the recently restored Hohenberg Castle, where the German people expelled from Czechoslovakia after World War II have their cultural centre.

    Day 5: Frantiskovy Lazne – Marianske Lazne 50 km / 31 miles

Just a couple of kilometres from Frantiskovy Lazne we reach the town of Cheb. For centuries this
town was the gate between the Holy Roman Empire and Czech Kingdom. This beautiful town is
without doubt the most “German” place in the Czech Republic, highlighted by the 13th-century merchant house, “Špalíček,” and the imperial castle, unique in the Czech Republic. It was the favorite residency of the emperor Friedrich Barbarossa and contains a striking Romanesque chapel. From Cheb we bike on car-free roads through small villages that attest to the centuries-old influence of the German people.
On the way we visit a Marian Loretto pilgrimage church and a chateau in Stary Hroznatov. The last stop on the way is the opulent chateau Kynzvart, built by Counselor Clemmens Metternich in the 19th-century as his representative seat. Today its architecture makes an elegant café stop. Just a few kilometers on, we reach our final stop of the day – the spa town of Marianske Lazne. Take time to soak those muscles in the spas’ healing waters.

Day 6: Marianske Lazne – Becov nad Teplou – Marianske Lazne 55 km / 34 miles

In the morning we have to climb a hill, or we can take the ski lift! Once on top, we bike along small roads to the Tepla monastery dating back to 12th century. We can admire the monastery church and particularly the library with some 80 000 books from all eras. From here on we bike through the mild forests and meadows of the Slavkovsky Forest area to the town of Becov nad Teplou, its chateau the hiding place of the famous St. Maura
reliquiary. It is one of the most important and valuable historical items of the country and of all Middle Ages Europe! From Becov we can either take a train to Mariánské Lázně, or bike the remaining distance back.
On Guided Group Tours we offer a transfer to Prague.

Day 7: Marianske Lazne – End of trip or extension

This day is up to you to relax and explore either Mariánské Lázně or Prague by yourselves.
If in Prague and eager for more biking, we highly recommend one day bicycle trip from Prague to Karlštejn Castle.

  • Czech Republic along Morava river guided/self-guided bike tour

This route along the Morava river will take you from the northern mountain region of Jeseniky, not so far from the border with Poland, to the southern region of wine production at Valtice – Lednice, on the border with Austria in the south.
This route combines special bicycling path with roads without traffic. The profile of the daily stages is mostly slightly downhill or falt. There are no up-hill climbs and therefore specially suitable for less experienced bicyclists as well as for families with children.

We will take you from Prague to Horni Morava – a mountain region. Next day we will start a slight 40 km descent to Šumperk. You will have a similarly easy profile each day. On the way to the wine region of the Lednice – Valtice complex we will visit Olomouc – the ecclesiastical metropolis and historical capital city of Moravia, Kroměříž – with the well-known Baroque Kroměříž Bishop’s Palace, the microregion of Slovácko with the town of Strážnice which holds a popular international folklore festival every June. During the tour you will have opportunity to visit several museums, castle and châteaus, some of them among the most interesting and historical in the country.

  • Itinerary Morava river self-guided bike tour from Prague

Day 1: Prague – Horní Morava 225 km / 135 miles by minibus or car

Pick up at hotel or airport in Prague and transfer to Horní Morava, check-in at the hotel there, adjusting the bicycle for you, practical training in safe cycling (guided group tours only), dinner at town.

    Day 2: Horní Morava – Šumperk 35 km / 21 miles

Most of the route follows the flow of the Morava River today. There is only one longer uphill climb with 200 m gain in the last section. Near Dolni Morava you have the opportunity to visit two well-preserved bunkers. These bunkers were part of the defence system of Czechoslovakia against attack from Hitler´s Nazi Germany. On our way we can stop at one of the largest Moravian breweries, Holba in Hanušovice. The Šumperk district had the largest catholic inquisitorial trials in the 1780s. Do not miss the city-hall and several citizens’ houses in Šumperk.

    Day 3: Šumperk – Olomouc 63 km / 38 miles

We start cycling through the valley of the Desná River on lesser used roads. Outside the town of Úsov we will avoid car roads and use a nice path through the river forest. You can enjoy a visit of the attractive Renaissance chateau in Úsov. During the 40 minute walking tour of Mladečské jeskyně (caves) you can admire the stalactical formations in all kinds of shapes. Our tour will take you to Litovel – known as the Venice of Haná.  The open air museum in Přikazy has an exhibition of Haná settlements and historical residential houses. We will stay overnight in Olomouc.  The archbishop’s palace is also famous for the coronation of Franz Joseph I during the Habsburg monarchy. Olomouc has fortress buildings built during the war between Austria and Prussia for supremacy in Central Europe during the 18th century.

    Day 4: Olomouc – Kroměříž 45 km / 27 miles

Tovačov is a picturesque little village set amongst ponds. Here you will find the tower of a Renaissance chateau Spanilá. Do not miss the great view from the 96 m high tower and visit the old Jewish cemetery. Kroměříž is called the Athens of Haná thanks to many Re-naissance buildings of antique influence. Kroměříž is also on the UNESCO Heritage list since the beginning of the 1990s. The Květná zahrada (Floral garden) and archbishop’s chateau is well worth visiting. You can enjoy the exhibition of paintings by Titian, Veronese and Brueghel – masters of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

    Day 5: Kroměříž – Strážnice 74 km / 45 miles

We will enjoy a brand new special cycling path along the Morava River in the morning. Then there is a short section on roads without traffic followed by one of the oldest and most popular cycling paths in the country. These paths will take you along the Morava River and Bata’s floating channel banks. We will cycle along an interesting border point between the Haná, Valašsko and Slovácko counties near Otrokovice.  At Napajedla we will see one of the best horse breeding farms which rears English thoroughbred horses.  We will pass through Velehrad, the most well-known pilgrimage site with the basilica of St.Cyril and Methodius.  It is possible to visit another exhibition of old aircrafts in Kunovice, where some of the exhibits were made in a close aircraft factory. We will stay overnight in little town Strážnice.

    Day 6: Strážnice – Valtice / Lednice 71 km / 42 miles

Ahead is another day on mostly new paved cycling paths with a long section along the bank of the Morava River. For a short time we will also visit Slovakia. Only 5 km from Strážnice we will make our first stop at Plže with its collection of 80 wine-cellars. The first had already been built in the 15th century. After a further 15 km we will reach Hodonín, the hometown of philosopher and first Czechoslovakian president, T.G. Masaryk. We will cycle through several small villages. It is possible to make a short stop at Lanžhot and visit a small chateau and local museum.  Tonight we will stay in Valtice, small town near Austrian border famous for its Baroque chateau from the 12th century.

    Day 7: Valtice – Lednice – Prague 23 km / 14 miles by bicycle and 260 km / 160 miles by bus

Our last cycling day: after breakfast we will visit the Valtice chateau and then cycle through the LedniceValtice complex. At the end of the 18th century, the local aristocratic family, the House of Liechtenstein, began to create a unique manmade landscape complex. The complex is registered in the list of UNESCO World Heritage monuments. After 20 km we will stop at the Lednice chateau and English-style landscaped garden. You will have enough time to visit the chateau, explore other monuments around or simply relax in the garden. In the early afternoon we will return to Valtice and take a shuttle back to your hotel in Prague.

Day 8:  Prague Departure after breakfast or extension of your holiday in the Czech Republic
