Detailed Tour Route
The route follows one of Spain’s most inviting Mediterranean regions, the Valencia coastline, combining gentle seaside cycling, peaceful inland stretches, and a chain of charming coastal towns between Alicante and Valencia. From modern Valencia with its vibrant cultural life and historic centre to tranquil beach areas such as Oliva, the journey offers a constant blend of sea views, relaxed landscapes, and traditional villages like Jávea, Altea, Calpe, and Moraira, where Mediterranean lifestyle and international influences meet under a mild year-round climate.

The cuisine of the Valencia region is deeply connected to its coastal location and fertile lands, offering a rich Mediterranean gastronomy based on fresh local produce, seafood, and rice dishes. From world-famous paella in its many traditional variations to freshly caught fish and seasonal ingredients, the region delivers an authentic and flavourful culinary experience. Each stop along the route becomes an opportunity to enjoy simple, high-quality dishes, always accompanied by excellent Spanish wines and the relaxed rhythm of coastal living.
Itinerary
15 km / 10 miles in a flat terrain
Individual arrival in Valencia. Introductory group meeting at the 5-star hotel and bike selection and adjustment to participants’ requirements at 6.00 pm, followed by a welcome drink. Dinner arrangements at participants’ own expense. Clients arriving in Madrid may opt to ride to Valencia by high-speed train from Madrid to Valencia, with a journeying time of just 1 hour 35 minutes. Train tickets are not included in the price. We can arrange for those.
20-30 km (17-20 miles) (loop)
Following a generous breakfast buffet, we depart from the hotel following cycling lanes as far as the Port of Valencia to view the site of the 33 America’s Cup sailing competition, then cycling onwards to spend a while pedalling along the Formula 1 track of Spain’s Gran Prix. We continue on to El Arenal, Valencia’s city beach, where we can rest for a while either basking in the bright Costa Blanca sunshine, or even taking a quick dip in the Mediterranean. From here we cycle into the city centre to visit the main landmarks such as the cathedral, the train station of architectural importance and the bull ring, the city walls, the central market, to mention just a few. Lunch will be at a typical city restaurant, followed by a free afternoon, allowing for a visit to the modernistic oceanographic museum and the City of Science built by Calatrava, or simply resting. Dinner will be provided at a beach-front restaurant.
70 km (43.5 miles)
After a hearty breakfast, we cycle from our hotel towards the Albufera natural park. We exit the city of Valencia over a new bridge designed by Santiago Calatrava. Cycling some 20 km (13 miles) to the beach at El Saler. Our route then takes us towards El Palmar in the Albufera nature reserve. Here, a boat excursion will allow us to enjoy this paradise of rice fields (one of the largest in Europe) and for bird-lovers, the wide variety of bird species that abound in this reserve. For lunch we’ll be in Cullera. A former fishermans’ and traiding small-town, where the Júcar river flows into the sea. We’ll pass by the romantic light-house and enjoy the view onto the old morish castle and the church up on top of the hills above Cullera. For lunch, the regional specialities are “Arroz Valenciano” (rice with saffron and fish, muls or rabbit and chicken) and a vast variety of fish and shell-food. Our afternoon ride takes us towards Gandía, a village surrounded by orange-fields, where we’ll complete our day’s cycling. Gandía, once upon a time a small fisherman’s village and a hide away for pirates and corsairs, has become a favourite beach-holiday spot for people from the region, from Valencia and from Madrid, too.
79 km / 90 km (49 / 56 miles) (loop)
Our day’s ride begins from our hotel and takes us into the wild and natural Hinterland, where we start climbing through a valley with spectacular views, a Morish castle, following country lanes and passing through one little village after the other, constantly surrounded by orange, lemon and almond trees and later on pine trees and chalk soil releasing a characteristic thyme and rosamary scent. The route is constantly uphill but without major climbs. A menu lunch is provided in a small mountain village. Afterwards, our cycle route back to the hotel is mostly flat to downhill. A relaxing swim in the sea or in the hotel’s pool will provide a great finale to today’s super cycling experience. Alternatively to this biking excursion, you may opt for golfing. Here you’ll find a chance to take in a bit of practice a different sport to biking. Dinner is provided at the hotel.
57 km (35 miles)
Starting from the hotel, today’s cycling route takes us along the coast and through the orange groves along the “camis” or lanes towards the port of Denia. Here we begin the climb towards Javea, cycling on to stop at a gorgeous beach surrounded by rocks. Here we will have time for a refreshing swim, followed by lunch overlooking the beach. Afterwards, we cycle up to the lighthouse at Cap de la Nau, where on a clear day, the views are quite spectacular, and we may even get to see as far as the island of Eivissa (Ibiza, Illes Balears). Our cycling day ends at the 4-star Parador hotel in Javea. Dinner is provided at the hotel.
65 / 75 km (40 / 46 miles) (loop)
Departing from the hotel we pedal inland on quiet country lanes towards Paracent, where an easy 6 km (4 miles) climb begins to the Col de Rates providing some excellent views of the surrounding countryside. We stop in a small village for a sumptuous lunch before cycling further down to Calpe and Moreira. From there back to Javea. A farewell dinner is provided at the port of Javea.
Following our final breakfast, you may opt (non of these are included) for a transfer back to Valencia, a train-ride from there to Madrid.
Extend your stay in Jávea, continue your trip around the region, or leave by plane from Valencia or Alicante. Don’t hesitate to contact us for any information. We can arrange in advance for any transfer or extended stay that you need.
If you want us to arrange for a longer stay in Madrid do not hesitate to contact us about this.
We offer the best rated Madrid City Tours. And of Madrid’s surroundings (Segovia, Toledo, Aranjuez and the wine region of Madrid) as optional DAY TOURS. This would be a very beautiful way of wrapping-up your bike tour in Spain.
