Cycle Through Northern Italy’s Highlights
Discover the changing landscapes of Northern Italy from the saddle. Ride along gentle rivers, past ancient olive groves, and over rolling hills. Take in famous sights such as Shakespeare’s Casa di Giulietta in Verona, Palladian architecture in Vicenza, and the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua. Enjoy local treats along the way, including a pistachio ice cream tasting and a Grappa sampling in Venice.
ROUTE
The route goes from Bolzano to Venice through South Tyrol and Veneto, covering daily distances between 37 km and 70 km. The terrain is flat to slightly hilly, featuring gentle hills along cycle paths and side roads. Moderate traffic sections occur where dedicated cycle paths are absent. Nearly all roads are asphalted. Highlights include a boat ride across Lake Garda from Riva to Desenzano, Sirmione, Garda, or Bardolino.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Bolzano
Explore Bolzano’s Mediterranean flair, historic arcades, Dolomite views, and the archaeological museum housing Ötzi, the iceman.
Day 2: Bolzano – Trento
40 miles / 65 km
Cycle along the river Adige through orchards to Salorno, ending the stage in Trento’s picturesque old town.
Day 3: Trento – Garda/Bardolino
31 miles / 50 km + boat trip
Ride along the Adige to Rovereto, descend to Lake Garda at Torbole and Riva, then board a boat trip to the south of the lake to Garda or Bardolino.
Day 4: Garda/Bardolino – Verona
25 miles / 40 km
Cycle through olive groves and vineyards along the Adige Cycle Path south to Verona, home to the ancient Arena and Juliet’s balcony.
Day 5: Verona – Vicenza
43 miles / 70 km
Ride through the Monti Berici hills to Vicenza, known for medieval Palladian architecture. (Train shortcut available from Verona to San Bonifacio).
Day 6: Vicenza – Padua
30 miles / 48 km
Pass Venetian villas like Villa Rotonda and cycle via the spa town of Abano Terme to Padua.
Day 7: Padua – Venice/Mestre/Marghera
23 miles / 37 km
Ride through flat landscapes of meadows and fields toward mainland Venice (Mestre/Marghera) with easy bus access to central Venice.
Day 8: Departure or Extended Visit to Mestre
Your tour ends after breakfast.

Getting to Bolzano (Departure Point)
By Train: Direct rail connections arrive at Bolzano station via Trenitalia
By Plane: Venice Airport (VCE).
Parking: Hotel parking spaces/garages available (approx. €10–€25 per day or €155 per week).
Public parking ranges from €92 to €140 per week.
Departure to Mestre
Train from Venice back to Bolzano takes approx. 3 hours
Optional pre-booked return transfer bus is available on FRI, SAT, and SUN mornings.
