Discover southern France by bike and boat on journey between Avignon and Aigues-Mortes, combining cycling through the landscapes of Provence and the Camargue with comfortable accommodation on board. The route brings together historic towns, vineyards, orchards and the distinctive wetlands of the Camargue, with highlights including Arles, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Les Baux-de-Provence.

Effortless Cycling and Authentic Provençal Hospitality

Whether you prefer following an expert English-speaking Tour Leader or exploring independently using the dedicated GPS App, this voyage offers ultimate flexibility across a gentle, flat-to-rolling terrain rated Easy / Medium-Easy. Each evening, return to your air-conditioned barge to unwind on the sundeck, enjoy traditional 3-course dinners crafted from local market ingredients, and savor freshly brewed artisanal coffee from the Cooperativa Lazzarelle.

The Caprice river barge navigating the wide Rhône River with the historic skyline and stone embankment of Arles in the background.

ROUTE

The route connects Avignon and Aigues-Mortes, travelling through some of the most distinctive landscapes of southern France. From the historic centre of Avignon, the journey continues through Provence, with cycling stages around Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence and Arles, before reaching the wetlands, lagoons and open landscapes of the Camargue. Depending on the departure, the itinerary can be travelled in either direction, from Avignon to Aigues-Mortes or from Aigues-Mortes to Avignon.

Self-Guided Tour

You cycle independently at your own pace rather than following a tour leader. A detailed App with maps, GPS tracks, points of interest and route information allows you to navigate the stages independently. It is a suitable option for cyclists who value flexibility and prefer to decide their own pace and stops during the cycling days.

Guided Tour

You cycle as part of a group accompanied by a tour leader. The guide leads the cycling stages, helping with route navigation and providing information about the places visited along the way. This option is suited to travellers who prefer to follow an organised group itinerary without having to manage the route independently.

Cycling takes place on a mixture of quiet country roads, cycle paths and small roads, with predominantly gentle terrain but some climbs and descents. The route combines historic towns and Provençal countryside with the unique landscapes of the Camargue, while the boat connects the different stages and provides accommodation throughout the journey.
