ROUTE
Starting and ending in historic Strasbourg, this circular itinerary follows a beautifully curated path along the Rhône-Rhine and Bruche canals, through the nature-rich Ried wetlands, and along the world-famous Alsace Wine Route. Cycling mostly on dedicated bike paths, paved agricultural lanes, and quiet country roads with minimal traffic, the route offers accessible, scenic riding across eight rewarding days.
The itinerary balances peaceful waterside pedaling with rich cultural encounters. Daily highlights include Strasbourg’s gothic cathedral and “Petite France” quarter, the Vauban fortifications in Neuf-Brisach, Colmar’s historic art quarters, the open-air Alsace Ecomuseum, and iconic wine-growing villages such as Eguisheim, Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, and Obernai nestled at the foot of the Vosges mountains.
Itinerary
Day 1: Individual arrival in Strasbourg
Arrival in Strasbourg, hotel check-in, and a free visit of the city. We recommend visiting the Cathedral, the European institutions, and the picturesque neighbourhoods, such as “Little France”.
Day 2: Strasbourg – Surroundings of Sélestat

You will leave Strasbourg following the Rhône-Rhine canal to reach the Sélestat region , a city rich in remarkable ancient architectural heritage. Overnight stay in Osthouse, Saint-Hippolyte or Sélestat.
Day 3: Sélestat – Colmar region
49 – 65 km / 31 – 41 miles
After visiting the beautiful baroque Church of Ebersmunster, you will cross the traditional villages of the Ried. This area, bordered by the Ill and Rhine rivers, is crisscrossed by numerous waterways where a rich diversity of flora and fauna thrives. After following the canal, you will arrive in Colmar, a city of art with an exceptionally well-preserved historic centre.
Day 4: Colmar – Surroundings of Mulhouse
65 km / 41 miles
The cycle path will take you from Colmar to Neuf-Brisach, a Vauban-fortified town and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue south to the village of Ottmarsheim and its beautiful 12th-century Romanesque church. Through the Hardt Forest and along the Rhône-Rhine Canal, you’ll arrive in Mulhouse, a city that blends tradition and modernity. This industrial and technological hub awaits you with its renowned automobile museum.
Day 5: Surroundings of Mulhouse – Surroundings Guebwiller
35/45 km / 22/28 miles
The route will take you along winding roads to Westhalten or Guebwiller, a wine-growing village nestled at the foot of the Grand Ballon. You’ll first drive to Ungersheim to visit the Alsace Ecomuseum, a veritable open-air museum laid out like an early 20th-century Alsatian village. The Murbach Abbey, once among the richest and most influential in the Holy Roman Empire, might well be your highlight of the day.
Day 6: Surroundings Guebwiller – Surroundings of Riquewihr
50/40 km / 31/25 miles
At the foot of the Vosges, the wine-growing villages producing the famous Alsace wines are: Eguisheim, Turckheim, Kaysersberg, and Riquewihr.
Day 7: Surroundings of Riquewihr – Surroundings Obernai
50 km / 31 miles
Along the wine route, you will discover the villages of Hunawihr, Ribeauvillé, Bergheim, Andlau and its Romanesque Abbey, and finally, Barr, or Obernai.
Day 8: Surroundings Obernai – Strasbourg
40 km / 25 miles
In Rosheim, you will not miss discovering the Church of St. Peter and Paul, one of the jewels of Romanesque architecture in Alsace. In Molsheim, you will reach the cycle path of the Canal de la Bruche, which will take you to the heart of the European capital. Departure.

Getting to Strasbourg (Departure Point)
By Train: Arrive directly at Strasbourg Railway Station (Gare de Strasbourg), a major hub with high-speed connections.
By Plane: Fly into Strasbourg Airport (SXB) (shuttle trains run regularly to the main train station, or take a taxi to your hotel). Alternative regional airports include Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (approx. 60 km) and EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse (approx. 120 km).
By Car: Covered and secured parking is available, easily accessible by tram, such as the Parking Indigo Strasbourg Hôpital Hautepierre (approx. €50/week).
