  • Tuscany bike tour: Pisa to Florence by Bike

Bicycling from the leaning tower of Pisa to Ponte Vecchio crossing the lands of Leonardo, Puccini, Pinocchio and several other artists, sculptors, composers, inventors and painters who got their inspiration by the beauty of the Tuscan landscape.

  • Bike itinerary

    Day 1: Pisa

Individual arrival. The city is famous all over the world for its magic Piazza dei Miracoli with the characteristic leaning tower, the bell tower of its cathedral. Pisa belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage since 1987. The city also offers many other monuments and it always offers a friendly and lively atmosphere of a university city.

    Day 2: Pisa–Lucca – 45 km/28 miles

Today you are bicycling northwards along the river Serchio for an easy start. For those who want a slightly longer itinerary, there is an option of going towards Massaciuccoli Lake before getting to Lucca.

    Day 3: Lucca–Montecatini – 45 km/28 miles

Pedalling through a panoramic road you pass the little village of Collodi and reach the town of Pescia. In Collodi, where the author of Pinocchio spent his childhood, you could visit the famous Pinocchio’s Park (created in 1962) the aristocratic Villa Garzoni also might be visited. In the city of Pescia you may enjoy a quiet stroll among churches, palaces, Renaissance mansions and the local flower street market.

    Day 4: Montecatini–Montecatini – 60 km/37 miles

Today’s stage offers you again two possibilities. You may relax in one of the most famous thermal cities in Europe and stroll down the narrow lanes of the old city, which is situated on a hill and can be reached by a characteristic cable-railway. The other option is a bike ride which leads you through a picturesque itinerary among villas of the Medici family, olive groves, vineyards and beautiful historical farms, going past Vinci, Leonardo da Vinci’s birthplace and you may visit his museum.

    Day 5: Montecatini–Florence 65 km/41 miles

After the breakfast you have to choose either to start biking directly from Montecatini or cut short the trip by a train transfer to Pistoia, rich in Romanesque and Renaissance monuments (mostly churches) and having one of the most impressive squares in Italy: Piazza del Duomo (cathedral square). Later you will bicycle enjoying the Tuscan flatland, and soon reach Florence.

    Day 6: Florence

You will have the whole day to explore one of the world’s most amazing cities!

    Day 7: Florence–Empoli–Pisa – 40 or 65 km/25 or 41 miles by bike + 40/65 km by train

Today you may choose istarting pedalling from Florence and get back to Pisa by a train transfer from the city of Empoli or start taking a train from Florence to Empoli and there start pedalling to Pisa along the river Arno.

    Day 8: Pisa

Individual departure after breakfast with the possibility to extend your stay or combine it with another tour.

Due to organisational reasons, weather conditions or provisions issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to some changes before and/or during the holiday. Along the way you may find temporary deviations (for example road works) which cannot be foreseen; in this case each rider can decide autonomously how to deal with these stretches.
