Taking this tour, you will ride in beautiful woods in the Mátra, Bükk and Zemplén Hills, enjoying fascinating views, picturesque landscapes in some of the most unspoilt areas of Hungary, see the miraculous Stalactite Caves of Aggtelek, visit famous medieval Castles, the Baroque town Eger, old village houses and museums. We will stay in wonderfully located castles, have superb gastronomic experiences in small but outstanding hotels and restaurants, and taste special wines in old cellars of the world-famous Tokaj, and the historic Eger wine-regions.
Your hotel is centrally situated at the Danube, on Buda side with a lovely view. You will meet your tourguide, have information about the tour, and dinner in the hotel.
We take a bus transfer to the Mátra. From the highest points we roll down through very nice woods with some panoramic viewpoints. We visit a small crystal workshop and a horse carriage museum, and we get to a small village, where the famous Lipizzan horses are bred. We stay here two nights in a luxurious castle hotel.
Cycling through the forests in a most beautiful National Park of Hungary we’ll enjoy a stunning view of the Bükk Hills from a look-out tower. We cycle along the picturesque Szalajka Valley and its highlights, the Veil-Waterfall, Rock Spring, and incredibly clear lakes with lots of trouts. We visit the famous Lipizzan horses, and ride back to our Castle where you can enjoy its lovely swimming pools and atmosphere.
You’ll take a fantastic walking tour in the Aggtelek Stalactite Caves. This is one of the most imposing caves of Europe, and part of the World Heritage. After this unique experience we cycle along nice landscapes to a cosy hunting lodge, enjoy their home-made game specialities, the peacefulness and the great view from the terrace.
We cycle through untouched woods, among small hills and picturesque vineyards all around, to another World Heritage Site, the Tokaj wine region, where the noblest sweet wine of the world, the Aszu is made. We sample excellent wines in the unique atmosphere of their more kilometers long cellars, which were hollowed out of the volcanic tuff in the 13th century. We stay in a very beautiful castle hotel near Tokaj.
We cross the Tisza on an ancient ferry, and cycle through peaceful countryside to Sárospatak. We visit the Rákóczi Castle, one of the most valuable monuments of Hungary, representing the styles of several ages. The Rákóczis played an outstanding role in our history. They were reigning princes of Transylvania, and leaders of the freedom fights against the Habsburgs in the 18th century. After this experience we taste the organic Tokaj wines of the Contessa in our Castle.
We cycle in a peaceful area along beautiful oxbow lakes near the River Tisza, and stop at the castle of the Andrássy family. After some more cycling and a short bus ride, we take the narrow-gauge railways to Lillafüred where we stay at a Renaissance Palace Hotel at a picturesque lake between beautiful hills.
We ride on the Bükk Plateau, through very beautiful woods, and colorful meadows, where we can even see the Lipizzan stud, if we are lucky. After an awesome downhill bike ride to the “Baroque Jewel” Eger, it’s time to taste our famous red wine, the „Bull’s Blood” in a unique cellar of a peak winemaker of Hungary. A nice walk in the historic town (protecting it from the Turks was our great victory in 1552) to admire its Cathedral, Main Square, or the County Hall’s wrought iron gates. Then we drive to our hotel in Budapest, and have our farewell dinner in a traditional local restaurant.
After enjoying breakfast in your lovely hotel, we hope you will get home safely, with nice memories for a lifetime.
