If you’re looking for an awesome day trip from Madrid, join us on a guided bike tour to El Escorial. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is full of stunning art and architecture, and offers a glimpse into Spain’s spectacular royal past.
The tour starts at our office in Madrid. We’ll drive up to the local area and you’ll have a chance to explore the incredible 16th-century monastery, and its vast collection of priceless paintings from the likes of El Greco, Rubens, and Titian. You’ll also see the Bourbon palace, the enormous library, basilica, and experience the eerie silence of the royal mausoleum.
We’ll spend the rest of the day riding through the surrounding countryside. It’s a beautiful route along the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama, and we’ll stop along the way for a delicious three-course lunch of local cuisine. The day ends with another leisurely cycle through some quaint local villages, before we head back to Madrid.
All bikes and equipment, transport to and from El Escorial, lunch, and entry tickets to the sights are included in the price.
Being a full-day tour, you should be in reasonable shape and comfortably able to cycle 35km or so.
